Convention History

The State Singing Convention was organized on April 20, 1946, at a meeting in the Armory in Glasgow, Kentucky, with the late Rev. John G. Salmon elected as its first president.  It was held September 28 and 29, on the campus of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The “Big State Sing” has been held several times in the following areas: Bowling Green, Louisville, Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Murray, Park City, Owensboro, Franklin, Campbellsville, Somerset, Liberty, and Scottsville since its formation.  It has been held annually since then and some years twice.  From  1993 to 2005 the Convention was held at Scottsville.  In 2006 it was moved to Cave City.

Until 1994 New Officers were elected by the Board annually.  That year they began serving two year terms.  Elected Board members serve three year terms.

Kentucky singers of Gospel Music are grateful for the foresight of the founding president and others who have given leadership in organizing the Convention.  It has brought pleasure and blessings to many people and will continue to do so down through the years.
